I have always wanted to see the progression of my favorite entrepreneurs like Alex Hormozi, Patrick Bet-David, and Mark Cuban. They’re all amazing heroes of mine but they didn’t really document their lessons and journey to success. This blog will document my failures, lessons, successes, and other key moments along my journey to becoming a successful entrepreneur. If this blog helps one person with their goal of becoming an entrepreneur and creating the life they want, it’ll be well worth it.

Who Am I?

My name is Jordon Drilling. I’m a 19-year-old aspiring entrepreneur. I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur ever since I read Rich Dad Poor Dad back in my freshman year of high school. Since then I’ve taken some baby steps toward that goal.

My Story

When I was 16 I started flipping cars for profit. I started out by buying a 1978 Ford truck from my neighbor for $800. Then, I pushed it down the road to my house, got it running, and cleaned it up. I sold that truck for $4000! Then I kept reinvesting that money to buy more trucks and make more money. One thing lead to another and since then I’ve flipped 9 trucks and made a profit on all of them. That was really my introduction to entrepreneurship and I knew I was hooked.

At the same time I was flipping cars I started a mobile car wash with my best friend. We didn’t really know what we were doing but we knew we didn’t want a “normal” job. With the help of family and friends, we built up a solid client base and were doing washes every weekend and some days even before school started. We did this for about a year until we ultimately stopped the business because of personal differences.

After that, I was in a bit of a slump and ended up working at a local pizza shop. I hated this job. After a week of working that job, I told myself “never again”. I would never again have a job solely for the purpose of making money. I would take jobs to learn instead of earn.

With that, I called a family friend who owns a homebuilding company to see if I could work for free because I wanted to learn about real estate. He invited me over to talk about a job. He told me he honestly didn’t know if he had a position open but he put me in contact with some of his employees who might have a spot on their team.

Long story short, I interviewed with a great woman named Brandy and she ended up hiring me for data entry. Not the most exciting job in the world but it was a foot in the door. I worked really hard to show everyone in the office I was serious about learning and I got a promotion to the land development team after about a month of data entry. That’s what I’ve been doing for the last year and a half and I just left that job last month because I realized I didn’t want to be a home builder.

That brings us to today.

Where I’m At Now

I left my job in land development after I realized I didn’t want to be a home builder but more importantly I left because I felt like I had lost my entrepreneurial spirit with a steady job. It’s really easy to be complacent and stagnant when you’re getting a nice paycheck every week. Almost like a sedative.

Once I left I started looking for high-value skills I could learn that would help me later on down the road. That’s where I am now.

I’m currently learning copywriting and trying to get freelance jobs. It’s been about a month since I started learning and I know my skills have improved but I haven’t gotten my first client yet. I like to say I’m in the “eating shit period” of learning a new skill. I’m going to keep working at getting my first client and won’t give up until I have a good handle on copywriting. After all, you can’t lose if you don’t quit.

There you go! now you know a little bit about who I am and how I got to where I am now. This page will be updated as I progress along my journey.
